2Low Inc, Lombardy

2LOW was the invention of two brothers John & Tony Ferguson from Lombardy, who have worked in the auto mechanics industry for over 25 years each. Their experience moving heavy loads and trailers made them realize there had to be an easier way to maintain steering and reduce stress on the drivetrain. The result was their invention of 2LOW as a simple plug and play product that is easy to install and allows the driver to switch into 2-wheel drive in low range giving them slow controlled movement without the binding and axle windup found when in 4WD.

Wild Oak Homestead, Almonte

An off-grid micro-farm that grows salad greens, assorted vegetables, and herbs. The farm naturally grows produce using methods that feed the soil and benefit the environment. The business sells these crops to local specialty grocery stores, restaurants and at a large farmers’ market and specialty markets.

Produce and sell high end woodwork ranging from cabinets, architectural details, furniture, beds and functional housewares for private and commercial market. Using 3-D Modelling software, Wild Wood Design and Build will work with the client to create custom units specifically designed for the client’s space and desires.

Launch Lab works in partnerships with Valley Heartland to drive prosperity and job creation throughout the region. Launch Lab’s mentorship and advisory services are driven by Entrepreneurs in Residence (EIRs) and Advisors who work with businesses in the region to engage with the business mentorship program.

Rideau Lakes is a local municipal government in the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville.  It is a large rural municipality with a number of small villages and hamlets.  Tourism, agriculture and service industries are primary economic drivers.  The Township has identified ‘economic development’ and ‘village and hamlet vitality’ as strategic priorities.

Smiths  Falls boasts  a  highly desirable location along  the  banks  of  the beautiful and  historic Rideau  Canal,  Ontario’s  only  UNESCO World  Heritage Site. Over the past few years Smiths Falls has continued to evolve through revitalization projects, tourism, business development and planning for the future.

This revitalization will increase public access and provide more amenities on the waterfront, impact local business through an increase of transient boaters, expand the communities’ capacity to attract, receive and successfully explore related inward investment opportunities and support the expansion of existing business.

Mississippi Mills is an outstanding urban and rural community that is recognized for its natural and architectural beauty, high quality of life and respect for its heritage and environment. In its vision of the future, the community will be seen to promote and manage balanced economic growth.

Funding summary: Funding support towards a 1.5 day facilitated forum on Community Engagement held in Almonte Ont. The forum facilitator will be Lisa Attygalle, Director of Engagement of the Tamarack Institute.

Outcome: New community economic development projects that advance, enhance and diversify the local economy, skills development, development of community resources

EODP Funding: $3,385.00

 

Township of Rideau Lakes, Portland

Rideau Lakes is a local municipal government in the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville.  It is a large rural municipality with a number of small villages and hamlets.  Tourism, agriculture and service industries are primary economic drivers.  The Township has identified ‘economic development’ and ‘village and hamlet vitality’ as strategic priorities.

Funding summary: Funding support towards expertise to develop and test a rural pro forma toolkit through a grounded exercise in the village of Portland. Portland is the only village on the largest lake in the entire Rideau Canal system, has major infrastructure decisions coming to the fore in a pattern that allows for a comprehensive and holistic consideration of the future and it is not meeting its potential to be a ‘marquee’ feature and draw along the Rideau

The project will use the backdrop of Portland to develop a pro forma toolkit that can be used by municipalities to assess and encourage new and novel forms of community development and revitalization.  The Portland specific outcome will be a completed conceptual plan for redevelopment along with a detailed pro forma analysis (business case).
